We didn't really talk about Up, but this morning I remembered this scene. In the commentary they were talking about how Ellie was represented by the color magenta, and you can see how much they have it in every shot. The funeral shot hits you in the face with it, and then when he walks into his house by himself they slowly pull magenta out altogether. They don't reintroduce the color until the end of the film when Carl finally resolves to continue his life and have his own adventure.
